What is Altace used for?

RAMIPRIL is an ACE inhibitor. This medicine is used to prevent heart attacks, strokes, or other vascular events for people who are at high risk. It is also used to treat high blood pressure and heart failure following a recent heart attack.

How is Altace should be taken?

Take this medicine orally accompanied with a drink of water. You may take it with or without food. This medicine should be taken at the regular intervals. You should never take more of this medicine than you are prescribed. You should never stop taking your medicine unless your doctor specifically advises you to.

Contact your pediatrician regarding the use of this medicine by children. Special care might be necessary.

Overdosage: If you suspect an overdosage, get in touch with the nearest poison control center or emergency room immediately.

NOTE: This medicine is only intended for your use. You should never share it with the others.

What to do if I missed a dose of Altace?

If you missed a dose, it should be taken as soon as possible. If the time has almost come for the next dose, only that one should be taken. You should never take double or extra doses; a single doze is sufficient for the purposes.

What are the possible interactions of Altace with the other medicine/food/etc?

  • diuretics
  • lithium
  • NSAIDs, medicines for pain and inflammation, like ibuprofen or naproxen
  • over-the-counter herbal supplements like hawthorn
  • potassium supplements
  • salt substitutes

This list is not all-inclusive. Provide your health care provider with a list of all the medicines, herbs, non-prescription drugs, or dietary supplements that you use. Also tell them whether you smoke, drink alcohol, or use illegal drugs. Some of those items may also interact with your medicine.

Is there anything I should pay attention to while taking Altace?

Pay regular visits to your doctor or health care professional to undergo the necessary check-ups. Check your blood pressure as directed. Ask your doctor what your blood pressure should be, and when you should contact them if it gets beyond the set limits. If you have diabetes, check your blood sugar as directed by your physician.

Female patients should inform their doctor if they wish to become pregnant or think they might be pregnant. Taking this medicine during pregnancy might cause serious side effects to your unborn baby. Refer to your health care professional or pharmacist for more details on the issue.

Check with your doctor if you have severe diarrhea or vomiting, or if you sweat a lot or become dehydrated. The loss of body fluids can be dangerous while taking this medicine.

A few patients have had strong allergic reactions during desensitization treatment with hymenoptera venom and during some kinds of dialysis. Let your doctor know if you are planning to have either of these procedures.

If you are planning to have a surgery, let your doctor or health care professional know that you are taking this medicine.

Does Altace have any possible side effects?

The following side effects should be reported to your doctor or health care professional as soon as they are noticed:

  • abdominal pain with or without nausea or vomiting
  • allergic reactions like skin rash or hives, swelling of the hands, feet, face, lips, throat, or tongue
  • dark urine
  • difficulty breathing
  • dizzy, lightheaded or fainting spell
  • fever or sore throat
  • irregular heart beat, chest pains
  • numbness or tingling in fingers or toes
  • pain or difficulty passing urine
  • unusually weak
  • yellowing of the eyes or skin

The side effects listed below usually do not necessarily require any medical attention (please do report them to your physician if they are recurrent or bothersome):

  • change in sex drive or performance
  • change in taste
  • cough
  • headache
  • tired

Other side effects are also possible, the above list is not all inclusive.

Where should I keep Altace?

Keep this medicine out of the children’s reach.

This medicine should be stored at the room temperatures between 15 and 30 degrees C (59 and 86 degrees F). Keep away from moisture. Keep container tightly closed. Dispose of any unused medicine after the expiry date is reached.
