What is Vermox used for?

MEBENDAZOLE is an anthelmintic. This medicine treats parasitic (worm) infections from roundworms, hookworms, pinworms, whipworms, or infections with two or more of these worms.

What should I discuss with my physician prior to taking Vermox?

Please do tell your physician if you have any of the following conditions:

  • Crohn's disease
  • inflammatory bowel disease
  • liver diseases
  • ulcerative colitis
  • an unusual or allergic reaction to mebendazole, other medicines, foods, dyes or preservatives
  • pregnant or trying to get pregnant
  • breast-feeding

How is Vermox should be taken?

Take mebendazole tablets orally. Mebendazole works best when taken with food, especially fatty foods such as whole milk, cheese, or ice cream. You can chew the tablets, swallow them as a whole or crush and mix with food (such as ice cream or pudding) which is an easy way to give the tablets to children. You should never take this medicine more often than prescribed. Finish the full course of medicine prescribed by your prescriber or health care professional even if you feel better. Space your doses equally through the day and night and take at the same time each day. Parasite (worm) death can be slow. To remove all parasites (worms) from the intestines may take several days.

Inquire with your pediatrician or health care professional regarding the use of this medicine by children. Special care might be necessary.

Overdosage: If you suspect an overdosage, get in touch with the nearest poison control center or emergency room immediately.

NOTE: This medicine is only intended for your use. You should never share it with the others.

What to do if I missed a dose of Vermox?

If you missed a dose, it should be taken as soon as possible. If the time has almost come for the next dose, only that one should be taken. You should never take double or extra doses; a single doze is sufficient for the purposes. You must leave a suitable interval between doses. If you are taking one dose per day and have to take a missed dose, make sure there is at least 10 to 12 hours between doses. If you are taking two doses a day and have to take a missed dose, make sure there is at least 5 to 6 hours between doses.

What are the possible interactions of Vermox with the other medicine/food/etc?

  • carbamazepine
  • phenytoin

Provide your physician with a list of all the medicine, including herbs and non-prescription drugs, or dietary supplements that you are using. Do let them know if you smoke, drink alcohol, or use any of the illegal drugs.of drinks with caffeine or alcohol, if you smoke, or if you use illegal drugs. Some of those items may also interact with your medicine, causing undesired consequenses. Please always consult with your health care professional prior to stopping or starting any of your medicines.

What should I watch for while taking Vermox?

Visit your prescriber or health care professional to check that your infection has gone. If you still have an infection after 3 weeks of using this medecine you may need a second course of tablets.

If you have hookworms or whipworms you may be anemic. Check with your prescriber or health care professional to see if you need the iron supplements.

If you have pinworms, other people in your house may need treatment. Pinworms are spread easily by the close contact.

Wash your hands, scrub your fingernails and shower often. Every day change and wash your bedclothes, linens, and underwear. This will help to keep other family members from getting infected. Disinfect the toilet every day, and mop the floors with the wet tissue often to reduce the number of the worm eggs.

Does Vermox have any possible side effects?

The following side effects should be reported to your doctor or health care professional as soon as they are noticed:

  • fever or chills, sore throat
  • rash, itching
  • unusual weakness or tiredness

The side effects listed below usually do not necessarily require any medical attention (please do report them to your physician if they are recurrent or bothersome):

  • diarrhea
  • dizziness
  • headache
  • nausea, vomiting
  • ringing in the ears
  • stomach pain, which can occur when large numbers of worms are present

Other side effects are also possible, the above list is not all inclusive.

Where should I store Vermox?

Keep out of the children’s reach in a container that cat not be opened by them.

This medicine should be stored at the room temperatures between 15 and 30 degrees C (59 and 86 degrees F). Dispose of any unused medicine after the expiry date is reached.
