What is Duricef used for?

CEFADROXIL is a cephalosporin antibiotic. It is used for the treatment of infections of the skin, respiratory tract, sinuses, ear, and urinary tract. It will not work for colds, flu, or other viral infections.

What should I discuss with my physician prior to taking Duricef?

Please do tell your physician if you have any of the following conditions:

  • bleeding problems
  • kidney diseases
  • stomach or intestine problems (especially colitis)
  • an unusual or allergic reaction to cefadroxil, other cephalosporin antibiotics, penicillin, penicillamine, other foods, dyes or preservatives
  • pregnant or trying to get pregnant
  • breast-feeding

How is Duricef should be taken?

Swallow it with a drink of water. It can be taken with or without food. If it upsets your stomach taking it during a meal might help. Your doses should be taken at the regular intervals. This medicine should never be taken more often than prescribed. Finish all the medicine you are prescribed even if you think that your condition has improved.

Contact your pediatrician regarding the use of this medicine by children. Special care might be necessary. This medicine has been used by children as young as 6 years old.

Overdosage: If you suspect an overdosage, get in touch with the nearest poison control center or emergency room immediately.

NOTE: This medicine is only intended for your use. You should never share it with the others.

What to do if I missed a dose of Duricef?

If you missed a dose, it should be taken as soon as possible. If the time has almost come for the next dose, only that one should be taken. You should never take double or extra doses; a single doze is sufficient for the purposes. There should be an interval of at least 6 hours between doses.

What are the possible interactions of Duricef with the other medicine/food/etc?

  • other antibiotics
  • probenecid

Some of those items may also interact with your medicine.

What should I watch for while taking Duricef?

Tell your doctor or health care professional if there is no improvement to your symptoms in a few days.

If you have diabetes, you may get a false-positive result for sugar in your urine. Check with your doctor or health care professional before you change your diet or the dose of your diabetes medicine.

Does Duricef have any possible side effects?

The following side effects should be reported to your doctor or health care professional as soon as they are noticed:

  • allergic reactions like skin rashes, itching or hives,face, lips, or tongue swelling
  • issues with breathing
  • dizziness
  • fever or chills
  • redness, blistering, skin peeling or loosening, including inside the mouth
  • seizures
  • severe or watery diarrhea
  • sore throat
  • swollen joints
  • trouble passing urine or change in the amount of urine
  • unusual weakness or feeling tired

The below side effects usually do not necessarily require any medical attention (please do report them to your physician if they are recurrent or bothersome):

  • diarrhea
  • gas or heartburn
  • nausea, vomiting

Other side effects are also possible, the above list is not all inclusive.

Where should I store Duricef?

Keep this medicine out of the children’s reach.

This medicine should be stored at the room temperatures between 15 and 30 degrees C (59 and 86 degrees F). Throw the medicine away after the expiration date.
