What is Omnicef used for?

CEFDINIR is a cephalosporin antibiotic. It treats many kinds of infections including those of the skin, respiratory tract, sinuses, ears, and urinary tract.

How is Omnicef should be taken?

Take this medicine orally by swallowing it with a drink of water. It can be taken with or without food. If it upsets your stomach it may help to take it during a meal. Your doses should be taken at the regular intervals. It should never be taken more often than prescribed. Finish taking all the medicine you are prescribed even if you think your infection is better.

Contact your pediatrician regarding the use of this medicine by children. Special care might be necessary.

Overdosage: If you suspect an overdosage, get in touch with the nearest poison control center or emergency room immediately.

NOTE: This medicine is only intended for your use. You should never share it with the others.

What to do if I missed a dose of Omnicef?

If you missed a dose, it should be taken as soon as possible. If the time has almost come for the next dose, only that one should be taken. You should never take double or extra doses; a single doze is sufficient for the purposes. There should be an interval of at least 4 to 6 hours between doses.

What are the possible interactions of Omnicef with the other medicine/food/etc?

  • antacids that contain aluminum or magnesium
  • iron supplements
  • other antibiotics
  • probenecid

Give your health care provider a list of all the medicines, herbs, non-prescription drugs, or dietary supplements that you use. Also tell them if you smoke, drink alcohol, or use illegal drugs. Some of those items may also interact with your medicine.

What should I watch for while taking Omnicef?

Tell your doctor or health care professional if there is no improvement to your symptoms in a few days.

If you have diabetes, you may get a false-positive result for sugar in your urine. Check with your doctor or health care professional before you change your diet or the dose of your diabetes medicine.

What side effects may I notice from this medicne?

The following side effects should be reported to your doctor or health care professional as soon as they are noticed:

  • allergic reactions like skin rashes, itching or hives,face, lips, or tongue swelling
  • issues with breathing
  • fever or chills
  • redness, blistering, skin peeling or loosening, including inside the mouth
  • seizures
  • severe or watery diarrhea
  • sore throat
  • swollen joints
  • trouble passing urine or change in the amount of urine
  • unusual bleeding or bruising
  • unusual weakness or feeling tired

The side effects listed below usually do not necessarily require any medical attention (please do report them to your physician if they are recurrent or bothersome):

  • constipation
  • dizziness
  • gas or heartburn
  • headache
  • loss of appetite
  • nausea or vomiting
  • stomach pain
  • stool discoloration
  • vaginal itching

Other side effects are also possible, the above list is not all inclusive.

Where should I store Omnicef?

Keep this medicine out of the children’s reach.

This medicine should be stored at the room temperatures between 15 and 30 degrees C (59 and 86 degrees F). Throw the medicine away after the expiration date.
