What is Neggram used for?

NALIDIXIC ACID is an antibacterial. It works by killing sensitive bacteria in the urinary tract by stopping the production of the essential proteins needed by the bacteria to survive.

What should I discuss with my physician prior to taking Neggram?

Please do tell your physician if you have any of the following conditions:

  • an unusual or allergic reaction to nalidixic acid, other medicines, foods, dyes, or preservatives
  • blood disease porphyria or a history of convulsions
  • cancer chemotherapy
  • central nervous system disease
  • kidney or liver problems
  • pregnant or trying to get pregnant
  • breast-feeding

How is Neggram should be taken?

Take it with or without food. If stomach upset occurs, take with food to reduce stomach irritation. Do not take products containing magnesium, aluminum, calcium, sucralfate, iron, or zinc preparations within 2 to 3 hours of taking the medicine. These products mix with the medicine, therefore preventing its absorption.

Drink a full glass of water with each dose. Drink several additional glasses of water daily unless otherwise directed by your doctor. Do not drink products containing caffeine during the treatment course.

To clear up your infection completely, take this medicine during the entire duration of the treatment course. Keep taking it even if you feel better in a few days.

Consult with your pediatrician regarding the possibility of use of this medicine by children. This medicine is not approved for use by children.

Overdosage: If you suspect an overdosage, get in touch with the nearest poison control center or emergency room immediately.

NOTE: This medicine is only intended for your use. You should never share it with the others.

What to do if I missed a dose of Neggram?

If you missed a dose, it should be taken as soon as possible. If the time has almost come for the next dose, only that one should be taken. You should never take double or extra doses; a single doze is sufficient for the purposes.

What are the possible interactions of Neggram with the other medicine/food/etc?

  • anticoagulants
  • antiarrhythmics
  • cyclosporine
  • melphalan
  • theophyllin
  • probenecid

Provide your physician with a list of all the medicine, including herbs and non-prescription drugs, or dietary supplements that you are using. Do let them know if you smoke, drink alcohol, or use any of the illegal drugs or drinks with caffeine or alcohol. Some of those items may also interact with your medicine, causing undesired consequenses. Please always consult with your health care professional prior to stopping or starting any of your medicines.

What should I watch for while taking Neggram?

This medicine can cause drowsiness, dizziness, or blurred vision. These effects may be worse if you take it with alcohol or certain medicines. Use it with caution. Do not drive or perform other possibly unsafe actions until you know how you react to it.

This medicine may make you to become sunburned more easily. Avoid the sun, sunlamps, or tanning booths until you know how you react to Neggram. Use a sunscreen or wear protective clothing if you must be outside for more than a short time.

Mild diarrhea is common with antibiotic use. However, a more serious form of diarrhea (pseudomembranous colitis) may rarely occur. This may develop while you use the antibiotic or within several months after you stop using it. Contact your doctor right away if stomach pain or cramps, severe diarrhea, or bloody stools occur. Do not treat diarrhea without checking with your doctor first.

Ensure that you undergo the full treatment course. If you do not, the medicine may not clear up your infection completely. The bacteria could also become less sensitive to this or other medicines. This could make the infection harder to treat in the future.

Long-term or repeated use of this medicine may cause a second infection. Tell your doctor if signs of a second infection occur. Your medicine may need to be changed to treat this.

Lab tests, including liver function, kidney function, and complete blood cell counts, may be performed while you use this medicine. These tests may be used to monitor your condition or check for side effects. Be sure to keep all doctor and lab appointments.

Does Neggram have any possible side effects?

The following side effects should be reported to your doctor or health care professional as soon as they are noticed:

  • blurred or decreased vision
  • burning or tingling sensation
  • changes in color vision
  • convulsions
  • decrease in ability to sense pain, temperature or body position
  • double vision
  • pain, redness or swelling of a tendon
  • seeing halos around lights

The below side effects usually do not necessarily require any medical attention (please do report them to your physician if they are recurrent or bothersome):

  • diarrhea
  • dizziness
  • drowsiness
  • headache
  • nausea
  • rash
  • stomach pain or discomfort
  • vomiting

Other side effects are also possible, the above list is not all inclusive.

Where should I store Neggram?

Keep out of the children’s reach in a container that can not be opened by them.

Store it at the room temperature, below 77 degrees F (25 degrees C), in a tightly closed container. Store away from the heat, moisture, and light. Do not store it in the bathroom.
