What is Requip used for?

ROPINIROLE is used for the treatment of the symptoms of Parkinson's disease. It helps to improve muscle control and movement difficulties. It is also used for the treatment of Restless Legs Syndrome.

What should I discuss with my physician prior to taking Requip?

Please do tell your physician if you have any of the following conditions:

  • dizzy or fainting spells
  • heart disease
  • high blood pressure
  • kidney diseases
  • liver diseases
  • low blood pressure
  • sleeping problems
  • an unusual or allergic reaction to ropinirole, other medicines, foods, dyes, or preservatives
  • pregnant or trying to get pregnant

How is Requip should be taken?

Take it orally accompanied with a glass of water. It can be taken with or without food. If it upsets your stomach, proceed taking it during meals only. Your doses should be taken at the regular intervals. You should never take this medicine more often than prescribed. Do not stop taking this medicine except on your doctor's advice.

Contact your pediatrician regarding the use of this medicine by children. Special care might be necessary.

Overdosage: If you suspect an overdosage, get in touch with the nearest poison control center or emergency room immediately.

NOTE: This medicine is only intended for your use. You should never share it with the others.

What to do if I missed a dose of Requip?

If you missed a dose, it should be taken as soon as possible. If the time has almost come for the next dose, only that one should be taken. You should never take double or extra doses; a single doze is sufficient for the purposes.

What are the possible interactions of Requip with the other medicine/food/etc?

  • ciprofloxacin
  • female hormones, like estrogens and birth control pills
  • medicines for depression, anxiety, or psychotic disturbances
  • metoclopramide
  • mexiletine
  • norfloxacin
  • omeprazole

This list is not all-inclusive. Provide your health care provider with a list of all the medicines, herbs, non-prescription drugs, or dietary supplements that you use. Also tell them whether you smoke, drink alcohol, or use illegal drugs. Some of those items may also interact with your medicine.

Is there anything I should pay attention to while taking Requip?

Pay regular visits to your doctor or health care professional to undergo checks on your progress. It may take several weeks or months before you feel the full effect of this medicine.

You may experience drowsiness or dizziness symptoms. Do not drive, use machinery, or do anything that needs mental alertness until you know how this drug affects you. Do not stand up or sit up quickly, especially if you are a senior patient. This is to reduce the risk of possible dizziness or fainting spells. Alcohol can increase possible dizziness. Refrain from using alcohol at all costs. If you find that you have sudden feelings of wanting to sleep during normal activities, like cooking, watching television, or while driving or riding in a car, you should contact your health care professional.

Your might experience dry mouth symptom. Chewing sugarless gum or sucking a sugar candy, and drinking plenty of water may help. Contact your doctor if the problem does not go away or is severe.

Does Requip have any possible side effects?

The following side effects should be reported to your doctor or health care professional as soon as they are noticed:

  • changes in vision
  • chest pains
  • confusion
  • fast irregular heartbeat
  • feeling faint or lightheaded, falls
  • hallucination, loss of contact with reality
  • increase or decrease in blood pressure
  • joint or muscle pain
  • loss of bladder control
  • numbness, tingling, or prickly sensations
  • shortness of breath, troubled breathing, tightness in chest, or wheezing
  • suicidal thoughts or other mood changes
  • uncontrollable head, mouth, neck, arm, or leg movements
  • vomiting

The below side effects usually do not necessarily require any medical attention (please do report them to your physician if they are recurrent or bothersome):

  • clumsiness, feeling unsteady, or dizziness, especially early in treatment
  • flushing
  • headache
  • increased sweating
  • nausea
  • tremor
  • yawning

Other side effects are also possible, the above list is not all inclusive.

Where should I keep Requip?

Keep this medicine out of the children’s reach.

This medicine should be stored at the room temperatures between 20 and 25 degrees C (68 and 77 degrees F). You should do your best to protect it from the light and moisture. Keep container tightly closed. Dispose of any unused medicine after the expiry date is reached.
